connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support

RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

About us:
, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, opened a new headspace centre in Bairnsdale in March 2017. The lead agency for headspace Bairnsdale is Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV). 
headspace Bairnsdale is governed by a consortium of local community organisations and the centre provides early intervention services at no cost for young people aged 12-25 years across 4 core areas:

  • Primary Health Care
  • Mental Health & Counselling
  • Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services (ATODS)
  • Vocational/Educational Services

About the role:
Reporting to the Centre Manager, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will be an experienced professional with considerable knowledge and experience in community engagement and youth advocacy. The purpose of the role is to promote the services of the headspace centre, and help young people to get early access to health and other services. This includes young people who have or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder or have economic and social recovery needs.

Qualifications and Registrations:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion, Public Health, Community Development, Social/Behavioural Science, Social Work/Planning or a related discipline.


  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social issues.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events and activities within a community setting.
  • Strong experience and expertise with social media as a communication tool.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional ability to engage and communicate to groups of people, tailoring communication to suit a specific target group or age range.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and experiences of young people from diverse backgrounds including young people who are culturally and linguistically diverse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or questioning).
  • Broad knowledge of the range of services available to young people in the local government, health, education, employment and youth sectors.

This role is based in our office in headspace Bairnsdale and is for a fixed contract to 30 June 2018, with the likelihood of extending beyond the 6 month period following an anticipated funding announcement. RAV centres (including headspace Bairnsdale) may be open, depending on client demand and operational requirements, 1-2 nights per week or a Saturday morning.  For this role, you will be required to work on Tuesday evenings each week, which is outside of standard business hours.

RAV requires all employees to undertake a satisfactory National and/or International Police Check (if applicable) and Working with Children Check prior to employment.
