connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support

RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.


Counsellor - Couple, Family and Child - Sunshine

  • Permanent, part-time 3 days, 22hrs per week.
  • Location: Sunshine Family Services Provider centre.
  • Make a difference providing professional, high quality counselling/therapy to our child, family and couple clients.

We are seeking a candidate who is committed to working in the community sector who would use their significant experience to choose interventions that are most likely to bring about sustained positive change.

  • Salary

    $74,414 to $80,888 per annum (pro rata) plus superannuation and tax-free benefits.

 About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager - Western and working closely with the Sunshine team, your responsibilities will include the provision of high quality, culturally sensitive relationship counselling and therapy, including education programs to individuals, couples and families.  Counsellors will have expertise in childhood development and family dynamics and be able to respond to a diverse range of issues: including trauma, violence and abuse, parenting concerns, stress and anxiety, separation and divorce and blended families.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Family Therapy, Counselling or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated application of therapeutic modalities relevant to working with individuals, couples, children and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to use therapeutic interventions and use appropriate good assessment tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, couples and families where family violence is present and accurately assess for family violence.
  • Previous experience working in an environment delivering tailored programs and services to a diverse range of community clients, including CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community, mental health issues, family violence issues and individuals at risk.

This role is based in our Family Services Provider centre in Sunshine. RAV centres may be open, depending on client demand and operational requirements, 1-2 nights per week or a Saturday morning.  Depending upon the role and location, you will be required to work an evening each week or other working hours will be negotiated which may be outside of standard business hours, on a regular basis.

RAV requires all employees to undertake a satisfactory National and/or International Police Check (if applicable) and Working with Children Check prior to employment.
