connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support

RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.


Mental Health Nurse - headspace Bairnsdale

  • Part-time 3 days (22hrs) per week for a fixed term until June 2018.
  • New headspace centre located in Bairnsdale.

headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, will be opening a new centre in Bairnsdale.  The lead agency for headspace Bairnsdale is Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV).  RAV is a valued provider of specialist family services.  Our vision is for positive, safe and respectful relationships for couples, families, schools, workplaces and communities.  Our objective is to relieve suffering, distress and helplessness and to enhance physical, social and emotional wellbeing. headspace Bairnsdale is governed by a consortium of local community organisations and the centre provides early intervention services at no cost for young people aged 12-25 years across 4 core areas:

  • Primary Health Care
  • Mental Health & Counselling
  • Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services (ATODS)
  • Vocational/Educational Services

 About the role

Reporting to the Centre Manager, this is an important position with primary responsibility for co-ordinating services to young people with a range of mental health disorders, including undertaking assessment and ongoing care in accordance with best practice and clinical guidelines.  The Mental Health Nurse will provide general health checks for young people and where required instigate a mental health treatment plan on behalf of a GP.  

 Qualifications and Rgistrations

  • Current nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  • Current credentialing as a mental health nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) or eligibility to become credentialed.


  • Extensive experience in the provision of mental health care to young people including completion of mental health assessments, crisis management, general health checks, psycho-education and treatment interventions that use current evidence-based approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social challenges.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of the principles and issues relevant to coordinated, multidisciplinary team approaches in the provision of mental health services.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
  • A detailed understanding the requirements to establish a GP mental health plan.

This role is based in our office in Bairnsdale centre and is for a fixed-term contract to June 2018.  This centre may be open, depending on client demand and operational requirements, 1-2 nights per week or a Saturday morning.  Depending upon the role and location, you may be required to work an evening each week or other working hours will be negotiated which may be outside of standard business hours, on a regular basis.

RAV requires all employees to undertake a satisfactory National and/or International Police Check (if applicable) and Working with Children Check prior to employment.
