Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support


RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

Project Officer Indigenous Cultural strengthening programs

  • Part-time (22.5 hrs per week), fixed term contract to Dec 2019.
  • Based in Camberwell.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced Project Officer to join our Central Office, Camberwell centre working across funded projects and programs supporting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Victoria.

About the role
Reporting to the General Manager State Services with day to day supervision by the Programs Manager, your responsibilities include providing effective and efficient project development and implementation.  The Project Officer will be a multifaceted role, supporting the development and implementation of programs, facilitating the reference groups that will provide support and guidance to program staff, and working in consultation with program partners.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must have demonstrated experience and understanding of cultural norms in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities and Aboriginal community controlled organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience of program development and implementation principles and processes, including the ability to initiate, plan, organise and establish priorities and report writing.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively to ensure program outcomes and milestones are achieved whilst focussing on both long term and short term project goals.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of internal/extremal stakeholders to build and manage relationships, engaging and engendering confidence in program stakeholders.
  • Successful applicants must have an unencumbered current drivers licence.

In addition, candidates are asked to respond to the following key selection criteria, offering examples from previous roles:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the issues affecting relationships for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and link these needs with program outcomes to build stakeholder awareness, expertise and motivation to respond appropriately.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related area.

This role is based in our Camberwell centre.  RAV centres may be open, depending on client demand and operational requirements, 1-2 nights per week or a Saturday morning.  Depending upon the role and location, you may be required to work an evening each week or other working hours will be negotiated which may be outside of standard business hours, on a regular basis.

RAV requires all employees to undertake a satisfactory National and/or International Police Check (if applicable) and Working with Children Check prior to employment.
