Backgrounder

RAV is the largest provider of professional relationship support services in Victoria, with more than 250 employees and 12 centres. The bulk of our funding is from the Australian Government, with additional funding received from state and local government grants and client fees. Many services are provided free or at a modest charge, depending on the client's ability to pay.

In 2011/12, RAV provided services to nearly 20,000 clients across the State, representing individuals, couples and families.

Our client centres at Ballarat, Boronia, Cranbourne, Greensborough, Kew, Shepparton, Sunshine and Traralgon provide the more traditional counselling and relationship support services. Each centre offers a wide range of additional services to many diverse groups and has helped to build the capacity of their respective communities, including the CALD and Indigenous communities. We also provide telephone counselling by appointment on a dedicated 1800 number.

Since 2006, RAV has become a significant provider of family relationship services through the Australian Government-funded Family Relationship Centres (FRCs). We are the lead agency at the Berwick, Greensborough, Melbourne and Sunshine FRCs, and a consortium partner at the Broadmeadows, Ballarat, Geelong and Ringwood centres.

Structurally, RAV is part of a national federation of Relationships Australia organisations, which while being independent of each other, share the common objective of supporting people to achieve positive and respectful relationships.

RAV takes part in a number of national initiatives, including the biennial qualitative national research report on the state of Australia's relationships, the Australian Relationships Indicators Survey.
