connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support


RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

New Family Psychology and Counselling Service in Kew

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) has introduced a private psychology and counselling service to complement its range of funded services.

Based at our Kew Centre, the family psychology team are registered, experienced psychologists and provide a service to children, individual adults and couples. Clients can receive support for a range of mental health, relationship, emotional, social, developmental and behavioural issues, as well as life challenges.

Rebates can be claimed for this service under a GP-referred mental health plan through Medicare's Better Access initiative or through private health insurance with relevant extras.

The family psychology team

 

Cathy Dixon

Cathy is a registered psychologist and counsellor with extensive experience addressing a wide range of needs for clients from diverse backgrounds. She holds a Masters in Psychology from Monash University and is a graduate of RAV's post-graduate Specialist Course in Couple Therapy. Cathy provides focused psychological support for individuals, couples and families. She is also a mindfulness teacher and has previous experience working with children and their families in a specialist school refusal program.

 

Catherine Gooden

Catherine is an experienced psychologist with a Master of Psychology (Education and Development) from Monash University. She works with children, adolescents and adults. Catherine has several years’ experience providing counselling services to children, adolescents and their families in primary and secondary education under Medicare’s Better Access initiative. Her areas of interest include helping children with developmental challenges, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression and adjustment to family separation/divorce and bereavement. Catherine has also worked with adults in private practice covering areas including anxiety, depression, grief and trauma.

  • grief and loss
  • the impact of trauma and abuse.

Family matters including:

  • childhood difficulties (e.g. developmental, social, emotional, behavioural, school refusal)
  • relationship difficulties
  • parenting
  • managing separation and divorce.

Our psychologists can provide clients with a range of effective strategies that best meet their needs and circumstances, including behaviour management, social skills, cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness and play therapy.

Our new family psychology and counselling service is fully private and complements our existing range of funded services.


How long does an appointment last?

A private appointment is approximately 55 minutes in length. The number of appointments you attend will depend on your circumstances. While some issues can be resolved in a few appointments, others take longer.


How much does an appointment cost? Are any rebates available?

A private appointment costs $150.

Eligible clients can claim a rebate through a GP referral as part of Medicare’s Better Access initiative, or through private health insurance with psychology extras. Please talk to your GP or contact your insurance provider for more information.

Clients will need to claim rebates directly from Medicare or health insurance providers.


When are appointments available?

Daytime and evening appointments are available Monday to Thursday.
