Young people can face all sorts of pressures – including problems at school, with friends or at home.
connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support

RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

Workshop: Responding to family violence in the workplace

2017 Professional Development Workshop Series

As well as affecting individuals and families, family violence can also impact workplaces, as it is likely that some staff will have experienced this issue directly or indirectly.

This interactive training is designed to assist managers and staff to feel confident in raising and responding to family violence concerns with their staff. Participants will gain knowledge about family violence and have an opportunity to explore and practice skills in the difficult task of responding to these situations, from both a personal and an organisational perspective.


In this workshop, participants will learn about:

  • family violence in Victoria
  • the impact of family violence in the workplace
  • how to create a safe work environment
  • the indicators of family violence
  • developing and practicing skills when asking employees about family violence
  • supporting staff affected by family violence
  • privacy and confidentiality
  • how to make a referral to family violence services
  • self-care.

About the presenter

Deborah McCormick has been a specialist practitioner in the family violence sector for over 15 years. She has held the positions of Manager of Quality and Training at safe steps Family Violence Response Centre in Victoria, and Domestic Violence Programme Advisor at the Ministry of Justice in New Zealand. Deborah has designed and delivered numerous workshops on family violence to a variety of audiences. She currently conducts training and facilitates men’s behaviour change programs at Relationships Australia Victoria.
