Young people can face all sorts of pressures – including problems at school, with friends or at home.
connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support

RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

About headspace:

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12 -25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers four core areas: mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services. The Consortium provides expertise, support and advice to the lead agency Relationships Australia Victoria and its representatives: Senior Manager Gippsland, Relationship Australia Victoria and the Centre Manager of headspace Bairnsdale.



Independent Chairperson

We are seeking an experienced health and/or community sector leader with demonstrated corporate and clinical governance skills, a commitment to the health and wellbeing of young people and a collaborative decision-making style. The Chairperson will provide leadership to the Consortium, ensuring members work effectively together to best achieve the mission of headspace Bairnsdale. The role includes mentorship of the Co-Chair (Youth Representative). This position collaborates closely with the Senior Manager Gippsland, Relationship Australia Victoria - Lead Agency for headspace Bairnsdale. Administrative and executive support will be provided by the Senior Manager Gippsland, Relationship Australia Victoria and headspace Bairnsdale Centre Manager.


  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience as a Chairperson in a range of different roles.
  • Preparedness to provide effective mentorship to Co-Chair (Youth representative).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Sound knowledge of corporate and clinical governance requirements and processes.
  • Have a collaborative style for decision making.
  • Demonstrated interest in the health and well-being of young people.
  • Communication skills including media liaison experience (desirable).


Co-Chairperson (Youth Representative)

The Co-Chair (Youth Representative) will also provide leadership to the headspace Bairnsdale Consortium. We are seeking a young person (12-25 years) interested in providing the consortium with ideas about the improving mental health and wellbeing of young people in East Gippsland. The Co-Chair will be provided with mentoring from the Independent Chairperson.

Key Selection Criteria

Things you need to be good at already:

  • You are a good leader in the community.
  • Being able to work with the adults in the consortium in a respectful and reliable way.
  • Good at working together with others in a group.

Things you need to care about:

  • Young people’s health and wellbeing in East Gippsland.
  • Interested in learning new skills.


Employment Status: These are voluntary positions until 30 June 2019 with the possibility of extension. Travel and related costs will be reimbursed.
