connectEDspace - support for young people

Young people can face all sorts of pressures – including problems at school, with friends or at home.
connectEDspace is a website by Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), dedicated to young people to help provide all the information they need to deal with the stuff they go through each day.

Aboriginal Family and Relationship Support

RAV provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals to help strengthen family relationships.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk with a professionally trained person to discuss couple issues, conflicts with friends, relationship breakdown, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood sexual abuse, stress and work related tensions and disputes.

Contacting family members separated as a result of adoption

Once your search has produced a possible address of the family member you’re seeking to contact, we recommend that you think carefully about your next steps.

This can be a very emotional and confronting time for everyone involved, and seeking advice and support from a specialist service is wise. Relationships Australia Victoria's Forced Adoption Support Service, Victorian State Government Adoption Information Service (AIS) and VANISH (Victorian Adoption Network for Information and Self Help) can all offer free assistance and advice.

It’s important that the person you are contacting has time to process your contact request and his or her emotions and expectations. You may have been thinking about a reunion throughout your search, but for the other person, contact may be completely unexpected. For this reason, a letter is often used to make first contact, as this gives the other person time to deal with their emotions and consider their response.

Specialist services such as AIS, VANISH and RAV can provide advice and help you compose a letter.

It’s important to respect the privacy of all people involved during this time. Victoria’s Adoption Act prohibits the publication of any identifying information about people involved in an adoption without their consent. This includes mentioning names or tagging people on social media such as Facebook.
