Clinical Supervision & Workplace Practice Program

This interactive, small group program provides graduates of our Specialist Course in Integrative Couple Therapy opportunities to view and reflect on live couple counselling sessions with the support and feedback of an experienced psychotherapist and trainer.

The program can be completed standalone, alongside our Specialist Course Clinical Internship, or as part of the Swinburne University Master of Social Science (Couple Counselling).

In each of the 12, weekly sessions, students watch a live or pre-recorded projection of a couple counselling session. Using knowledge gained through readings and an orientation, they formulate reflections that are then offered to the couple by their counsellor and a representative from the student team.

This reflecting model provides a rich, interactive and supportive environment for students to enhance their training and professional development. It also offers clients another dimension to their therapeutic experience, often deepening and enhancing outcomes. At the end of the session, the couple is invited to discuss the team’s reflections with their counsellor.

The counsellor and reflecting team then debrief and have a facilitated discussion. This provides the opportunity for students to experiment with different theoretical lenses, hypothesise about the couple and the work, think about directions taken and/or not taken, and offer suggestions for the next session
